We had our company's year end function at The Barnyard Theatre at Gateway. We watched the production Boogie Wonderland - it is all about the 70's music. For those of you who watch reality TV Shows, you might remember Petro from Idols. She was one of the perfomers. Even though I liked Anke and am glad that she won Idols, Petro was one of my favourites. She has an AMAZING voice and her rendition of "Knocking on heaven's door" gave me goosebumps.  The show was brilliant. I have sore wrists from clapping and a hoarse throat from singing and cheering. Petro was BRILLIANT - I still can't believe she did not get further in Idols - she has a stunning voice and it is soooo powerful.

I had the pleasure of attending Boogie Wonderland at the Barnyard Theatre Gateway.  What a spectacular set and cast.  The female vocals are none other than Petro de Villiers (from Idols) and Claire Rowlett.  The male vocals are Clinton Philander and Duane van der Linde.  The song list is endless but includes – That’s the way I like it, Celebration, Bad moon arising, Do you think Im sexy? Staying alive, Live and let die, Kung Fu Fighting, Sweet Caroline,YMCA and many other hits from the 70’s.  Petro sings Bette Davis Eyes and Babe solo – what an awesome young talent.  She has grown from strength to strength since Idols days. It was great to get to meet the cast in the foyer after the show. Petro signed a programme for Brendan the designer of her fansite to whom she is very grateful for all he has done for her.  I even got a pic with the lady of the moment.

On the evening of Friday, 30th July 2004, I had the wonderful privilege of attending a performance of Natural Woman at The Barnyard in Broadacres. Being an avid follower of Idols, my main reason for attending the show was to see Petro de Villiers "live" on stage and I was not disappointed! Petro does six two hour show per week, including Sunday afternoons, and gives her all at every performance. She makes it look so easy, belting out her Alanis Morissette rock songs, like "You ought to know" and others, to the delight of the audience. I believe that, of all the Top 10 Idols from last year, Petro has done the best in terms of a musical career. She is a true professional. After the show, we were fortunate enough to meet and have drinks with the cast. They are all so down to earth and easy to talk to. By the way, Petro's "significant other", Johan Liebenberg, plays lead guitar in the show and is an artist in his own right, having already released his first CD. All of the seven female artists bring their own style to the show and I was particularly impressed by a young opera trained vocalist from Cape Town, Tarryn Page. The show is so awesome and energetic that I saw it for a second time and I intend seeing it once more.

My name is Kyle Grant – I’m a South African recording artist/singer, also performing for the Barnyard Theatre.  I was able to meet the finest young lady around, whom I believe, is this country’s true idol (my favourite Idol by miles) – Petro de Villiers. After watching her bringing the house down like the sophisticated rock chick she is, I anxiously waited to meet her, and all I can say is: w-o-w.   She is THE most down-to-earth, classiest gal… and with the whole package, I just know she’s gonna go so far!

Petro sang her songs with gusto and the expertise of a female star much older than her years, as she opened the Idols Unite Against Hunger concert in Cape Town.  She is truly the female rock-star for the future.  I am sure she will be well accepted by the international fan force at large.  Keep all ears and eyes out on stalks for when you may see her in a live show as it will take your breath away totally!  My only negative point to make when thinking of this young lady is that she has not had the opportunity to appear in Cape Town often enough for me to have been to many more shows.  I hope that this will change in the near future.  I look forward to having her CD.

On the the 16th of December 2003 I had the privilege to watch Petro perform live at the Idols Unite Against Hunger Concert in Cape Town..  Petro was absolutely amazing! All the contestants were given 2 songs each, one of their choice and one of their favourite songs sang during the Idols competition.  Petro opened the show with "I Drove All Night" as her personal choice.  Her vocals were so good when it came to hitting those high notes, that she could easily have given Celine Dion a run for her money! I, for one, couldn't wait to see Petro on stage one last time! After watching her performance of "Like A Pill", (sang for her audition) everyone could see why she was labeled the Idols rock chic. I certainly hope I get the opportunity to see her perform live again ... she ROCKS!
